Huzzah Hobbies' Hammer in the New Year 2016 - Sneak Peak

Hey all I just wanted to post this up because its SO FREAKING COOL! On Sunday I went and picked up the Grand Prize for the Tournament. A life sized Thunderhammer!

This thing is like 5 feet tall!

So with that being said I'll be ordering the trophies later this week and hopefully posting our painting rubric as well.

This is shaping up to be an awesome event and I honestly can't wait till January! We've got plenty of spots left so I suggest to sign up sooner rather than later!

If you're interested in going more information can be found at http://gt.elphilo.com.

Hope to see you in January!

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/huzzah-hobbies-wh40k/zze0tWyQlDY

Tournaments Saturday August 15th

Hey all as NOVA is gearing up there's a lot of rumblings of practice tournaments. I'm here to tell you about two that I know of (and I'll be attending one myself) on Saturday August 15th, 2015.

So if you're in the Richmond area (or know anyone that is) check out the guys from River City 40k! They've got a tournament going on next Saturday and the details can be found here and here.  This is being run by a great bunch of guys and if I wasn't already committed to the next tournament I would definitely be there!

The next tournament that is happening on the 15th is in the Fredericksburg area and is being hosted by the guys from Game Vault. The details can be found here and here.

Hopefully you can make it to one of these two events!

Huzzah Hobbies' Road to the NOVA Open 2015 - FINAL UPDATE

I just wanted to let you know that the league is done! I also wanted to give you a big THANK YOU for participating in Huzzah Hobbies' Road to the NOVA 2015. I hope you had as much fun playing in it as I have! And on top of it? We raised almost $200 for the Wounded Warriors Project! You should feel proud that you helped a good cause AND played some 40k!

Now to the thing that we all care about PRIZES! I've created a spreadsheet that has all the player's stats in the leagues broken down. The Bracket Champion breakdown is organized by W/L and points as a tiebreaker and the Battle Points breakdown is just organized by the total amount of points. The link for that spreadsheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j4Y9mU5WgKo_MQx9aP7OCXUV9gRLjhGw4ZVTXF9SmbE/edit?usp=sharing

Don't forget you can also see your rankings in the league as a whole on Torrent of Fire!
http://app.torrentoffire.com/#/tournament/Huzzah-Hobbies-Road-to-the-NOVA-Open-2015/1/leaderboard

We'll have an Award Ceremony for all the winners on July 11th, the same day as the finals around 10:15 am.

Speaking of the finals I will be sending out emails to all the bracket champions and then the next top 3 of the league to invite them to fight it out for their NOVA invite soon!

One more thing concerning the league. We'll also have a Consolation Tournament for the lowest 8 players in the league! Chris (Huzzah's owner) has given $20 store credit for the winner of this tournament, which will be happening at the same time, July 11th! So expect your emails soon :)

But before I finish this post a little bit of promoting. Don't forget to join us on Friday nights at Huzzah for 40k night! I've been working with Joe Harmon and Neil Gilstrap to create a super fun non-competitive Narrative Campaign. Hopefully we'll be able to actually start playing it in the coming weeks! Its coming together fast! You can keep up with it here at my blog or better yet Huzzah Hobbies' 40k Google group located here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/huzzah-hobbies-wh40k

Once again I want to say thank you and I hope to see you all on a Friday night!

Huzzah Hobbies Friday Night 40k!

Just wanted to get a post up about how I'm going to be running a 40k night up at Huzzah Hobbies on Fridays. I'll be running more casual/narrative leagues there. But you're more than encouraged to come out and play a game or hang out and chat 40k!

If you're interested, or if you just want to have another forum to browse that's 40k related I've setup a google group located here: http://hh40k.elphilo.com

If you're on a mobile browser you'll probably have to request the desktop site to join the group.

The Google Group will be the place I use to announce upcoming tournaments/events (but I'll still post updates on my blog) or a great place to try to schedule a game.

Hope to see you on a Friday night!

Space Marines and Dark Angels Wish List

So this blog has kind of evolved into me using it as announcement space for tournaments and leagues. It originally started off as a place for me to post about my 40k escapades, from painting to battle reports. Well this post is going to be the latter.

More after the break!

Supplies from the Reclusiam Have Arrived!

I just wanted to get out there a quick picture of the purity seals blessed by The Emperor Himself. These will be awarded to the Bracket Champions and Battlemasters, and then the top 3 at the finals ON TOP of the gift certificates you'll receive.

So fight hard to win one!

Hey all if you're looking for some ATC Practice the guys down at River City 40k are putting on a 3 man ATC Style Tournament on July 11th! Here's a link for some more information: http://www.rivercity40k.com/?p=102

If it weren't for the fact that the League Finals are on that day I'd probably be heading down with a team myself!

Huzzah Hobbies' May RTT 2015 - UPDATE

Hey all just wanted to post a quick update. We're going to follow the changes that the NOVA Open are doing with their third detachment. So you're allowed to take a third detachment just that it cannot be CAD-Like. Here's a quick run down:

Your third detachment must not be CAD like. Meaning that if the detachment that you want to take has all 5 choices (HQ, Troop, Elite, Fast Attack, Heavy Support) that is CAD like and not allowed in the third slot. Examples of CAD like detachments are Company of the Great Wolf Detachment (from Champions of Fenris Supplement), Real Space Raiders Detachment (from the Dark Eldar Codex) and Nemesis Strike Force (from the Grey Knights Codex). Now if your detachment doesn't have all 5 choices (HQ, Troop, Elite, Fast Attack, Heavy Support) it is a non-CAD like detachment. Examples of those are Masque Detachment (from the Harlequin Codex), Skitarii Maniple (from the Skitarii Codex) and Officio Assassinorum Detachment (from the Officio Assassinorum Dataslate).

Also remember with the release of the new Imperial Knights codex, they have essentially been banned from the NOVA Open format and will be treated the same way at the RTT this weekend.

If you have any questions please let me know. You can reach me at elphilo40k at gmail dot com.

I'll see you Saturday!

Huzzah Hobbies Road to the NOVA Open 2015 - Week 1 started!

Week 1 has started! If you did not receive an email with your bracket please let me know!

Huzzah Hobbies' Road to the NOVA Open 2015 Update 3

So that's it! Sign ups are closed and we have a total of 32 people! WOW! I can't thank you enough for wanting to participate in the league!

I hope to have brackets out today and you'll be getting an email with more details on how and where to input your scores when I finish making the brackets.

If it turns out you can't get a hold of someone or they flake out, please let me know. My email address is elphlo40k at gmail dot com.

Remember you have two weeks to do your games or it results in a forfeit! But like I said earlier if you don't hear back from someone in a reasonable amount of time please contact me!

Also just a little quick something cool that I made, a map of all the participants in the league. Now I don't have exact addresses only cities that people signed up for, so when you see multiple pins close to each other, that's not where they live. I just moved them so I can see how many are in one area easier.

Oh and you can see the brackets too ;)

Huzzah Hobbies' Road to the NOVA Open 2015 Update 2

Hey all I just wanted to put a post up that there is only 1 week remaining for sign ups! So tell your friends! Remember you can sign up in the store or get instructions for signing up online by emailing me at elphilo40k at gmail dot com.

Also I wanted to inform everyone of some changes that NOVA Open is doing and we're going to follow suit.

First change is the change to D Weapons, here is the change -
D shots originating from greater than 12" away treat all "6" results as "5" results instead.
D weapons always inflict only D3 Wounds or Hull Points (even on a "6" result). These also still do their penetrating roll on the vehicle damage table.
The next change is detachments. Originally the NOVA allowed 2 detachments of anytype meaning you can double CAD. Now they've changed it. You can still take the double CAD but you're now open to a third detachment. Though the third detachment does have some restrictions -
Your third detachment must not be CAD like.
Also please remember that if you take a Combi-Detachment (so far, as of this post, there are only 3, the Necron Decurion Detachment, the Craftworld Warhost from the Eldar Codex and the Blood Host Detachment from the Khrone Daemonkin Codex) then that counts as your two CAD-like detachments you can take. That way you're allowed to take that third detachment in case you want to take another formation or say an assassin.

If you have ANY questions about any of the detachment rules please DON'T hesitate to ask me. You can contact me via email, elphilo40k at gmail dot com.

The third and final update for this post is just an FYI for players. With the release of the new Imperial Knight Codex they have been changed into Super Heavy Lords of War. Meaning they are now banned in the NOVA Open format, so they're going to be banned in this league as well.

Anyway I think that covers it. If you've got any questions at all please don't hesitate to contact me!

Huzzah Hobbies April RTT SATURDAY April 25th, 2015 UPDATE

I just wanted to let everyone know that we will be allowing the new Eldar codex. Ranged D will be okay for this event as NOVA doesn't have any rules against Ranged D yet, though I'm sure something will happen. We can also be a good beta test for the NOVA! But remember the Wraithknight is becoming a Gargantuan Creature and NOVA doesn't allow that!

Also there have been a few questions about the RTT, I'm going to start putting these in my normal posts but thought I'd also put them here as well.

Are unpainted models allowed?
YES! You can have a full army of gray on the table it doesn't matter. All that matters is you come out and have fun!

Are proxies allowed?
YES! The only thing we ask for is the model that is doing the proxing has to be the same base size as the intended model and be around the same proportions as well. Also if you have multiple proxies you need to be consistent. I don't want to see a Space Marine with a heavy bolter count as a lascannon in one unit and count as a plasma cannon as another. They both need to be either a lascannon or a plasma cannon. Also if you're taking a proxy please give the benefit of the doubt to your opponent for line of sight reasons.

We'll see you this weekend!

EDIT: I've been talking to Mike Brandt about Ranged D and he's asked me to try a new rule for the tournament that NOVA is considering. All D weapons mounted on NON-superheavy/gargantuan units operate at the -1 affecting D-Scythes (D-Scythes would of course not suffer an additional -1) when rolling on the D chart.

EDIT TO MY EDIT YO!: The above only effects Ranged D currently. Your bloodhtirster with the D axe is safe, currently ;)

Huzzah Hobbies April RTT SATURDAY April 25th, 2015

Hey all its that time again, its time to post the April Huzzah Hobbies RTT! I do have some exciting news though, we're now officially an ITC event! For more information about the ITC click here!

This month will be like last months we're going to be using NOVA Open format with the new NOVA Open Missions and FAQ. That means 1850 points and 2 detachments. The detachments rules can be found in the mission primers but I"m just going to copy them here:

You may use up to 2 Detachments (as defined in the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook) to create your army. These may include unique Codex detachments which themselves are comprised of multiple subcomponents (i.e. the Decurion Detachment found in Codex: Necrons). You must otherwise follow all relevant rules for Battle Forged Army Construction, including use of a Warlord and Primary Detachment (which may not be an Allied Detachment). There are no restrictions on selection of the same Detachment twice (e.g., a Combined Arms Detachment).

The missions can be found here: http://www.novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-40K-GT-Invitational-Draft-Primer.pdf

And the Draft FAQ can be found here: http://www.novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-NOVA-Open-Warhammer-40K-GT-Draft-FAQ.pdf

Just as an FYI our MAX is 32 players. So if you want to play you should really call up the store and sign up. Please arrive between 10 am and 10:30. Round 1 will start around 10:45am. No need to sign up though it is preferred (and if we reach max and you're not signed up there's nothing I can do!). You can call the store at 703-466-0460 or visit their website www.huzzahhobbies.com for location / number. $15 gets you in and we feed you lunch! Also this is a cash only event. So please hit up that ATM before you get there as the closest one is a few miles down 7.

I'll see you guys there! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Huzzah Hobbies March RTT SATURDAY March 28th, 2015

Hey guys I know this is super late and I apologize, life caught up to me. So Huzzah Hobbies' Monthly RTT will be on Saturday March 28th! This month we're going to be using NOVA Open format with the new NOVA Open Missions and FAQ. That means 1850 points and 2 detachments. The detachments rules can be found in the mission primers but I"m just going to copy them here:

February Huzzah Hobbies SATURDAY 28th, 2015!

Hey all its that time again for another RTT up at Huzzah hobbies! Last time we had 31 people come out for it and I hope we can get that number again! Just as an FYI our MAX is 32 players. So if you want to play you should really call up the store and sign up.

This month's format is kind of strange. We'll be using Adepticon Rules Construction and FAQ (available here, please look for the Warhammer 40k Championship for army construction rules). But we will not be using their missions. They're pure maelstrom and while great for a fun game, it has no place in a tournament. So we're going to use the NOVA Open/11th Co. missions, available here.

Please arrive between 10am and 10:30.

Can't wait to see you there. Let me know if you have any questions!

January Huzzah Hobbies SATURDAY 31st, 2015!

Hey all! Its been awhile since I've posted and I've already got a few questions for this month's tournament so I thought I'd put a post up. Sorry it took me so long to do so!

This month's format will be LVO/BAO style. The format rules can be found here: https://www.frontlinegaming.org/las-vegas-open-hotel-booking/las-vegas-open-2015-warhammer-40k-championships/

FAQ we will be using is the ITC 40K Tournament FAQ 7th ed, which can be found here: https://www.frontlinegaming.org/community/40k-faq/

Its similar to the NOVA Open format we usually do but they allow Forgeworld and a limited amount of Super Heavies/Gargantuan creatures. So they're totally allowed this month! Also if you plan on bringing in Forgeworld, please bring the source book with you. I don't have any of them so if there is a rules dispute we'll need to consult the book.

Please arrive between 10am and 10:30. Round 1 will start around 10:45am. No need to sign up though it is preferred. You can call the store at 703-466-0460 or visit their website www.huzzahhobbies.com for location / number. $15 gets you in and we feed you lunch! We have room for about 30 people, so come one come all!

Can't wait to see you guys then!
