E TENEBRAE LUX II

Well it has been a while I know, but classes finally ended a few weeks ago and in that time I've managed to get some painting in! Oh and the E TENEBRAE LUX II started the day after my last final, which means another painting challenge for me to participate in. Which is great because I just got my airbrush and Minitaire Airbrush Paints and decided to jump right in and do a couple of Whirlwinds as test models.

Pictures after the break.

Path to Redemption Group Shot

So now that the Path is complete, it has been asked of us to do a group shot for posterity's sake. Well here's mine, enjoy!

1539 Points of Deathwing. Though the Apothecary in that picture is now illegal. Thanks GW for no SS/TH option for him. Ah well, what are you going to do?

Now I have to motivate my self instead of meeting deadlines! Though I have finished 5 Deathwing Knights and will post pictures of them soon. Until then, I have to put all modeling/painting on hold till after the semester ends. The end of the semester has really snuck up on me!

Terrain Project

I've been looking at the terrain I have recently and noticed one thing. The terrain that I've made and is not painted, I really like. The terrain that I haven't made and is painted, I have started disliking them. So I've decided I'm going to add something else to my plate, actually painting up terrain! The first thing I have to get rid of is my hills. In the past I bought a bunch of smallish size hills made out of styrofoam. They are painted up really nicely. But through the years they have started to show wear and tear. So I set off to find a replacement for them and actually came across some Games Workshop hills. I've bought their hill set from the past and it looked atrocious. So I was really surprised to see that they redid it into something decent.

The Path has been walked

DarkAngel Veteran DarkVoltus By: DarkVolt

As you may know this is the final month for the Path to Redemption and since school is being a real pain this semester I decided to do a quick Vow. Well that Vow is completed! See the pictures after the break!

February Update

I know I've been pretty quite the past month with the blog. But with school starting up at the end of January I really haven't had time for much, especially updating my blog. So this post is going to be multiple posts in one. First up is the tokens that I made with help of a How To on From the Warp. They were really simple to make. And it was kind of fun to plop these down during a game to see the reaction from my friends.

Dark Angel Buff and Debuff Tokens

Like I said before, they were really easy to make, especially following the How To. I just went to Michael's found the wooden discs and spray painted them black. Then I created the inside graphics in Fireworks and just used Mod Podge Matte, which I also found at Michael's in the same isle as the discs, to seal them. When I was putting the glue on I made sure the entire disc was covered enough so you couldn't see the paper below it. By not putting too much of the glue on, it will dry overnight. If you put too much it can take up to a week to fully dry. On one of my test disc I managed to do that, oops! Regardless I now have a bunch of awesome tokens that look pretty good on the table top. More after the break.

Battle Report: Dark Angels vs Chaos 2k Points

Sorry it's taken me so long to do this, I've been really caught up in a great book. Perhaps you've heard of it?

Ravenwing by Gav Thorpe

I guess I've fallen in love with Gav Thorpe and his writing. After finishing the book on Friday, and after lamenting that it's part one of a trilogy and I don't really know when the next book is coming out, I've come to realize a bunch of my favorite 40k books are made by him. Angels of Darkness, The Purging of Kadillus and lets not forget his novella The Lion. All great! And if you want to read Ravenwing, I would suggest starting with The Purging of Kadillus followed by Angels of Darkness. Even though Angels of Darkness came out years before The Purging of Kadillus, story wise The Purging of Kadillus happened before Angels of Darkness. But if you don't want to read that many books I still highly recommend Angels of Darkness. Anyway I'm now talking about something that has really nothing to do with the battle report! The full report after the break.

New Year's Tabletop Gaming Resolutions

I know it's a little late but I've been thinking about it and I wanted to be "held accountable" for my Tabletop gaming resolutions. I've come up with only a few things, which will probably make it easier to do them.

  1. Setup a good looking Gaming Table in my basement
    • Right now I've got a contractor adding a room in my basement to rent out to a friend. But after that I want to try and set one up. I'll have to clean and move all the boxes that have ended up down there but I think it'll be worth it, since a few of my gaming friends do live in my neighborhood.
  2. Get at least one Warhammer 40k game in per month
  3. Get at least one unit painted per month
    • These two are easier said than done. Considering I work full time and go to school part time.
  4. Save up and buy a Thunderhawk
    • This is the year I finally do this. I've always wanted one and I've decided to say screw it I'm going for it. Hopefully I can get this before the year is out.
That's it. Not much I know, but that's at least 12 units painted! I've already done January, now just to think about February.

Also I had a game on Saturday versus my chaos playing friend, I'm going to try and get the battle report up before the weekend, but it has been a kind of hectic week with school starting up on Tuesday.

First Game with the new Dark Angels

I was able to get my first game in with the Dark Angels codex last night. And let me say I had a blast. So far the new codex is a breath of fresh air! More after the break.

January Vow Complete!

So with much time to spare for the rest of the month I have completed my January vow!

See some more shots after the break!

Hammer in the New Year 2013!

So I just finished my tournament. Unfortunately I didn't do that well. My first game was very close, only losing by one objective point. My other games, total blow outs. Played against a really great Grey Knights list with allied Imperial Guard. The guy ran 2 Leman Russ Punishers. I've always loved these tanks, so much dakka! My last game was versus Necrons. No it wasn't CronAir, it was actually very blanced. Only one flyer, one barge and even a monolith. Regardless of how it turned out I had a blast and can't wait for the next tournament!

But even though I lost overall and best general, I did win something. . . .

I barely beat a beautiful Daemon army by one point and a gorgeous Necron army by 2 points. I'm very proud about this and I'm really excited to start painting the new figures!

+++EDIT+++

Here's a quick picture of my army the night before the tournament

Light box test shots and a small update

Well now that I'm actually determined to paint my miniatures to a decent degree. I also decided I wanted to take better pictures of them, it also helps that the B&C painting challenges require pictures. So a few weeks ago I went ahead and put in an order for a light box and camera stand for my point and click.

Well they came in a few weeks ago and I was able to find some time to mess around with them. See some sample pics after the break.
